As I was walking away, I looked back and found myself turning around to take a picture (or 10). Who cares what the rush hour drivers thought? And anyway, I knew my friend C wouldn’t get there for a few more minutes — she was trying to find a place to park her car. ;)

Lady, your bike is so… clean!
Can’t help but thinking you need a better lock. Then again, I am in NYC, but that cute little thing looks chew-worthy.
Cute indeed…and I love the blueness. But yes, a nice heavy-duty lock may keep her safer.
Ah…my bike took me on a beautiful cycle along the River Thames in London yesterday…and gave me a busted right knee (unfortunately)…but it was worth it!. :)

The bike looks great! I was also envying that your risk of theft is so low that you can use a cable lock. Lucky!
Unrelenting driving rain and winds here for the past few days so no cycling until things calm down. I am not usually afraid of rain but oh my god this has been something else entirely! I’m hoping just to leave the house by bicycle sometime this week.
l enjoy the photos and the blogging. I fractured my ”good” wrist 5 weeks ago and am thinking of getting an adult tricycle because 1’m afraid of falling again (even though l fractured it slipping on black ice not riding my folding bike).
I know you have a wheel lock, but I cringed at the cable lock. That would not fly in the DC area either. It’s a wheel lock & U-lock for my 45lb city bike.

Chicago is so great about promoting bicycling, even to providing places to park and lock them up and l really like the looks of that bike too.

This weekend I said that come hell or high water I was going to be back on my regular bike commute to work. It was not possible for weeks after the blizzard, and then I was being lazy.
Well, the high water came. The Potomac is over its banks in a few spots and the trail’s low lying areas are completely flooded and impassable. I have got to learn to watch my mouth.
Here’s hoping the flood waters recede quickly! (And yes, we’ve been having some really wacky weather over here).

You are all making me paranoid. :) I do lock it up with a U-Lock at home, but for short outings, I think the cable/O-lock combo is sufficient.
Gram Bev, sorry to hear about your injury! And you’re right, this photo was taken in Nashville, not during a Chicago visit — it has been too long since I’ve been up there.

@Miss Sarah — I’m glad my bike *photographs* clean! Was just noticing the other day how mud-spattered the chain guard and bottom bracket were.
It’s refreshing to come across clean bikes(photos of or the actual bikes).;)
I spend some time during the weekends to spruce up my 3 bikes (- going to be 5 soon).

Jebus, people! All this fuss about the lock. Thank god Trisha chimed in and made sure she was OK with the safety of HER bicycle in the city SHE lives in. You guys are missing the point of this blog, seriously, if you concentrate on the locking technical issues rather than the fact that she was out enjoying a fulfilling libation with friends (AND THEN GOT TO BIKE HOME!!!!). I have lived in “dangerous” places, and I have found that the safety of the bike has to do directly with your attitude towards the art. This lady is obviously invested in the lifestyle enough to make sure it doesn’t evaporate.

Wow, really keen and kleen! My friend has a Batavus just as clean but that’s only because she injured her knee at work right after she bought it and hasn’t been able to ride it yet. (She should be healed enough to ride by the end of the month though just in time for the nice weather)
The Bat is cute as a bug and so is this post :) Wish I could meet you for happy hour like the olden days – we could ride together.
