My Daily Vacation

Despite the light rain and dense fog yesterday, on my way home I came upon a tour group riding big ol’ Schwinns. The group was already gathered off the path to the side, but I passed one straggler who was pedaling slowly and gazing all around with a huge smile on his face. He served as a lovely reminder of how lucky I am to live in Chicago and use the Lakefront Trail. People go on vacation and that is an activity they choose – renting bikes and riding along the trail. I get to do it twice a day, every day. In the mornings I try to remember to look left at the sunrise and right at the skyline. Because one day this era of my life will be only a memory.

What a great idea! Next time I visit my friends in Chicago, I’m totally asking if we can ride the Lakefront Trail. My camera will be in hand! If I ever make it out there, Dottie, I’ll let you know. Maybe we can meet for some coffee and a bike ride!

  2. I have a similar experience to what you describe when I ride along the Charles River path in Boston and the Danube path in Vienna; I see people touring and visiting from far away places, and can’t believe how lucky it is that I live with these trails right next to me.

The Betty Foy looks like she is really enjoying the ride as well, and will be writing about this period of her life in her memoirs.

So when do we get a review of Betty? : )

I miss Oma. You are neglecting her since you got Betty. Especially on a nice raining day where she excels. :)

I know, and she’s pissed. I usually pull her out on the weekends and every time I do it’s like falling in love all over again.

What a beautiful bike. I love the color with the brown leather. It’s perfect!

Why that’s a Bobby’s Bike Hike Tour Group! They’re the finest way for tourists to see the city. And, full disclosure, I work there. Great blog, ladies. Ring a bell next time you see us.
